Crow Canyon Petroglyphs

These pictures were taken at the Crow Canyon Petroglyph site along Largo Canyon Wash in Northwest New Mexico. These petroglyphs date from the 16th, 17th and 18th century and are regarded as some of the best if not the best Navajo petroglyphs in the southwestern United States. You can find out more about this site at Crow Canyon Site and Petroglyphs.

The drive is about 33 miles mostly on dirt road. We took NM 550 south from Bloomfield, then East on Sullivan Road/SJC 4990 and followed it for about 30 miles. You travel out into oil field country, so watch out for oil drilling rigs and trucks, one just about ran us off the road. You will see the sign on the left for Crow Canyon. Follow the directions and map from the the website above. We went on a day when it was about 100, the trip to 44 panel is about .8 mile, so take some water, especially if it is hot.

This is a great site and well worth the trip. If the road is wet do not go, I am sure it will be terrible, plus you have to cross the wash. Hear me now and believe me later on that!
